Paljena ili Žarena žica ima svoju primenu u građevinarstvu. Žarena žica (ili paljena žica) se proizvodi iz svetlovučene žice zagrevanjem u pećima u zaštitnoj atmosferi (bez kiseonika) na temperaturi od 680 – 700 C. Tokom procesa žarenja menja se struktura materijala čelične žice i ona postaje meka i lako savitljiva.Često je nazivamo žicu za oplate (šalovanje). Postupkom žarenja smanjuje se sadržaj ugljenika  u hemijskom sastavu žice, što dovodi do smanjivanja zatezne čvrstoće (omekšavanja) na 350 – 380 N/mm2 i mogućnosti za lakše manipulisanje ovom vrstom proizvoda.
